Photography seems to be as simple as looking around and pushing the camera button.

Or maybe more than that?

Maybe photographs have layers - invisible and hard to decipher. I decided to bring them out by combining photographs from Milan's Civic Photographic Archive and my own ones with iconic texts about photography, and making them inseparable images, underlining the complexity and ambiguity of photographs. The topic of the original pictures is mostly art, which gives them another layer - the final picture becomes art about art, an image of an image, a visual representation of a representation of the world created by somebody else. The overlapping meanings, contexts, dependencies, the whole world left behind the frame, past and future actions cut out by the photographer are coming back here to think about them and not only about what’s visible inside the frame.

Project realised in collaboration between Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano and Civic Photographic Archive in Milan

Exhibited in a group show "Archivio" in Civic Photographic Archive, Castello Sforzesco, Milan, Italy / 19.10 - 05.11.2021
